Master of Music Recital
In 2022 to complete my Master's degree I curated and performed my recital "Night, Fantasy, Love". I have a deep interest in fantasy and myths and so I wanted to find pieces that fit that description. I'm also a really big fan of film score and decided to add that to my program as well.
In the first half of my recital you'll hear my first set entitled "Night" which features works by Gabriel Faure and Manuel de Falla. The second set "Fantasy 1" features musical theater pieces based on fairytales like "Beyond My Wildest Dreams" from The Little Mermaid as well as vocal pieces from the films Pan's Labyrinth and The Lord of the Rings: Two Towers.
I wanted this recital to reflect my path as a musician and decided to play the flute and arrange pieces from the films as well.
Master of Music Recital
The second half of my recital features my second fantasy set "Fantasy II" which featured works of Henry Purcell and Clara Schumann.
My final set "Love" featured some more dramatic pieces and some of my favorite pieces to perform including "Roadside Fire" by Ralph Vaughan Williams, usually performed by baritone singers, and "Il Bacio" by Luigi Arditi.
I ended the recital with the world premier of an original composition inspired by Sara J. Maas's A Court of Thorns and Roses series entitled "Starfall". "Starfall" started as a piano piece, and here it features the flute on the main melody with a simple piano accompaniment. The scene that inspired the piece took place at night between two fae who were in love. Given this inspiration, I knew I had to end the recital with that piece.
